HE WAS IN THE BATTLE AT GETTYSBURG & IT SEEMS AS IF THEY WAS GOING ABOUT THE SAME ROUTE THAT ISAAC & BYRON WENT LAST FALL. ISAAC & BYRON ARE ON THE BLACK RIVER NOW THEY SAY THAT THEY WENT DOWN TO TAKE VICKSBURG & HAVE NOT HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF SEEING THE CITY I SUPPOSE YOU KNOW THAT VICKSBURG WAS TAKEN IT WAS SURRENDERED THE 4TH OF JULY WITH 28,000 PRISONERS & 53 SIEGE GUNS & ANY AMOUNT OF CANNON & SMALL ARMS. ISAAC THINKS HIS REGIMENT WILL BE BACK IN KENTUCKY BEFORE LONG I HOPE THEY WILL & BE HOME TO I THINK OF YOU GO TO AND TAKE CHARLESTON THAT YOU CAN ALL COME HOME SOMETIME.
