TROWBRIDGE, ELIJAH FISH AND JACOB VOORHIS AT BLOOMFIELD---"THE CHURCH WAS ORGANIZED BY THE REV. ELDAD GOODMAN IN 1823 AND SOON AFTER WAS VISITED BY MR. RUGGLES. AFTER MR. RUGGLE'S RETURN TO THE EAST A MEETING WAS HELD FOR THE PURPOSE OF DETERMINING WHETHER TO GIVE HIM A CALL AND IT WAS DETERMINED IN THE NEGATIVE. MR. RUGGLES WAS INFORMED OF THE RESULT BUT RETURNED AND COMMENCED LABORING...BUT FEARS OF MANY WERE REALIZED, THAT HE IS NOT AN ABLE, EFFICIENT, [AND] ARGUMENTATIVE PREACHER...HE HAS SUSPENDED ENTIRELY HIS LABORS IN THE CHURCH....WE HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT APPLICATIONS FOR AID IN SUPPORT OF MR. RUGGLES HAVE BEEN MADE TO YOU BT PERSONS WHO MAKE NO PRETENSIONS TO RELIGION. IF SO, WE WOULD CAUTION YOU ON THIS SUBJECT"---REV. MR.
